The Santa Monica College (SMC) Modern Language Lab, as part of its tutoring service, is excited to offer interactive Spanish Conversation Workshops for SMC students who want to practice and further enhance their Spanish language. The hour-long workshops, titled “Let’s Talk Spanish,” happen bi-weekly in Drescher Hall Room 219.
“The primary focus of our Spanish workshops are to encourage students to enhance their skills, emphasize developing vocabulary and use grammar in a real world context,” states Joshua Everett, Tutoring Coordinator of SMC Modern Language Lab.
“In the workshop, participants acquire useful expressions to draw upon in a conversation,” said Carlos Valera, who is the Spanish tutor conducting these useful and fun workshops. His goal is for students use grammar knowledge that they learned in class in an interactive environment to help students integrate their Spanish in real-life situations.
According to the SMC Spring Schedule 2016, the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures offers fourteen languages classes. Students can chose from twenty-seven Spanish sections, twelve Japanese classes, eleven French lessons. Other languages taught include Chinese, Arabic, German, Hebrew, Italian, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish and American Sign Language.
